Project Tir a Mor

This year Class 2 have been doing a project with Mrs A Morris on saving water and energy. We have completed surveys and the work has involved much Information Technology work.

Energy Facts
Did you know?

  • Releasing too much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere causes global warming
  • Every time a domestic appliance is  used , such as a kettle or CD player, some carbon dioxide is released as energy is provided. This may be in the home itself(gas), or at a power ststion(electricity)
  • Our homes are directly responsible for nearly one third of the carbon dioxide (CO2) released in the UK
  • An iced up refrigerator can use double the energy keeping food cool as when it is ice-free
  • It only requires a mug full of water to be heated to make a mug of tea, not a full kettle
  • A washing machine running at 40C uses one third less electricity (and is responsible for one third less CO2) than heating the water to 60C
  • Drying clothes on a washing line uses free solar energy rather than having to pay for electricity to power a tumble drier.

Water Facts

Did you know?

  • A dripping tap wastes enough water during a day to run a shower for 5 minutes.
  • Running a tap uses 10-14 litres of water in a minute.
  • By using a water saving device in a toilet it saves about 3l. of water every time it is flushed.
  • You can collect the water that runs down the roof and use it to wash the car or water the garden.
  • If everyone in Britain turned the tap right off when they are brushing their teeth there would be enough water saved in a day to fill the Millennium Dome.
